About St. Tammany's Fire District 12:

St. Tammany’s Fire District 12 is a department that is always striving to better serve the needs and protection of the community that created it twenty years ago.  In the 1980’s residents of Ward 3 realized that they had no official fire department, which not only put their safety at risk but also affected their eligibility for fire insurance on their homes.  Through their efforts, Fire District 12 opened its doors on April 1, 1986.  The community has lived under its protection and currently enjoy a Class 3 rating on their insurance.

Fire District 12 has grown considerably over the last two decades, and plans to continue its progress for the years to come.  At its conception there were only a handful of firefighter volunteers, two trucks, and one station.  They now have five stations, four of which operate 24 hours a day seven days a week, over 40 full-time career firefighters, and 12 full-time dispatchers for Unifire – a unit that fields all fire and medical calls, making the district’s response time faster.   FD12 also hosts community outreach programs such as Summer Fest and Christmas at the Firehouse, and is always available for tours, field trips, safety information, and children’s birthday parties.  All of their public activities are designed to show the community their appreciation for ongoing support, and to have a good time while teaching them basic safety.
